Hola amigas!
Come hang out with awesome women from Microsoft!
ACM-W is throwing a dinner next Monday (Nov 17) at the Ram, and we’ve invited a bunch of fabulous women to come hang out! Meet women in industry, make new CS gal pals, and girl talk over dinner.
This is a girls only, recruiting free event.
Spots are very limited, so rsvp by Friday the 14th!
Remember to bring cash for food!
Wanna rsvp? Have any questions?
Email Soyoung (soyoung@cs)!

… I can’t believe CNN is reporting on this
And though there are any number of bloggers and commenters who attempt to keep their postings and responses on a civil level, all too often interactive Web sites descend into ad hominem attacks, insults and plain old name-calling. Indeed, there are even whole sites devoted to venting, such as justrage.com (one screed there was titled, “I don’t give a flying f***, so f*** you”) and mybiggestcomplaint.com.
thanks Will, for the alarming news. I had no idea…

**Note**: Location has changed to Gates Commons
ACMW is holding another chill session on October 30th, 5pm in the Gates Commons (on the 6th floor of the CSE Building). Chill sessions are a fun, informal way of getting people (particularly women) in the CSE department together so that we can all get to know each other.
We’re planning to do YouTube charades next Thursday, but we need your help. Fill out the survey if you have any YouTube videos that you’d like us to use: https://catalysttools.washington.edu/webq/survey/nancydo/63023
Hope to see everyone there!

Hey all,
A friend pointed me to a blog post that comments an article called “Ten easy ways to attract women to your free software project.” I thought it might be interesting to see what you all think about this.

Apparently in Japan, they sometimes teach in formats foreign to us Americans. Formats such as Manga.

Princess Ruruna is stressed out. With the king and queen away, she has to manage the Kingdom of Kod’s humongous fruit-selling empire. Overseas departments, scads of inventory, conflicting prices, and so many customers! It’s all such a confusing mess. But a mysterious book and a helpful fairy promise to solve her organizational problems—with the practical magic of databases.
This book looks so adorable, I want to buy ten!
